The Greek God: Pan

Jules Mouquet’s La Flûte de Pan (1904) is a glorious celebration of music, nature, and spring. Across its three movements (Pan and the Shepherds, Pan and the Birds, Pan and the Nymphs) it is at times joyous, and other times tender, but always maintains a strong connection between the two performers as they respond to each other. Legends say Pan, the Greek god of the wild, spent his time in the high hills among birds and flocks, playing rustic melodies on his reed pipes and napping at noon.
