For Valentine’s Day, the VSO prepared an intimate and romantic program featuring members of the woodwind section of our orchestra. Principal clarinet Jenny Jonquil steps into the shoes of jazzman Benny Goodman, who premiered Aaron Copland’s beloved Clarinet Concerto. Assistant principal oboist Beth Orson delivers a gorgeous Soliloquy for English horn by the American composer Jennifer Higdon, while principal bassoonist Julia Lockhart romances listeners with the music of Sir Edward Elgar and Astor Piazzolla. Finally, Roger Cole caps a VSO career of forty-five years as Principal Oboe with the music of Domenico Cimarosa.
